BSNL-faces-no-legal-hitch-for-scrapping-Ericsson-bid

NEW DELHI: BSNL will not face any legal challenge by cancelling the largest-ever global network-equipment tender worth $10 billion, a committee studying implications of the move has said.

The four-member committee was set up by the telecom ministry to study the state-owned telecom operator’s decision to scrap a tender for 93 million GSM lines. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) — the country’s anti-corruption body — observed that network major Ericsson’s ‘exorbitant’ price was one of the reasons why BSNL could not award the contract to the Swedish telecom’s gear maker despite both companies negotiating prices for over six months.
