ADILABAD: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Adilabad, on Friday allayed fears of the general public over radiation from its cell towers with officials saying that the radiation level was much below the specifications of the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI).
Deputy General Managers P.S. Subramanyam and M. Venkateswara Rao said all the BSNL cell towers rose over the height of 40 metres that rendered them safe.
At a press conference in connection with the 11th formation day celebrations of the telecom giant, the officials said all the radiation did not affect even on a horizontal plane.
“All the towers were located farther than 20 metres from high rise buildings,” the officials said.
BSNL is facing resistance from residents at some places where it intends to put up new cell towers.
The officials appealed to people to allow erection of the towers wherever necessary.
BSNL officials handed over three-tricycle mounted public call offices (PCO) to physically-challenged persons on the occasion. This was part of the social responsibility of the Corporation, Mr. Subramanyam said.
