NEW DELHI: The selection of CMD of public sector telecom major BSNL has become a political issue as Trinamool Congress MP Ambica Banerjee has written to PM Manmohan Singh, alleging that one of the contenders R K Upadhyay is being considered for the post for his proximity to telecom minister A Raja.
Banerjee alleged that Upadhyay, who is being considered a strong contender for the BSNL's CMD post, has never headed even a telecom circle in the country.
In the letter written to PM, Banerjee said that most of the time Upadhyay was posted on deputation, out of the main stream of BSNL and department of telecommunication . "I am given to understand that Upadhyay being less experienced, especially in mobile and broadband fields, will not be able to perform up to the mark," the letter said.
