Tele-density and Market Share as on 31.10.2010.

Sub: Tele-density and Market Share as on 31.10.2010.

During October 2010, 18.83 million telephone connections have been provided in the country taking the total telephone connections in the country 742.13 million as on 31st October, 2010.  During September 2010, 0.21 million broadband connections were added taking the total broadband connections in the country to 10.29 million as on 30.09.2010.

The tele-density & market share of all other telecom operators is enclosed.

  It is seen that:
(1)          For telephone services:
(i)            BSNL has added 2.25 million connections during the month of October 2010.  This works out to 11.94% of the total connection added in the country.
(ii)          BSNL was at 4th position in the new total connections added in October 2010 and 7th position during FY 2010-11 (upto October 2010). 
(iii)          In the financial year 2010-11, BSNL has added 9.50 million connections.  This works out to 7.87% of the total connections (120.78 million) added in the country.
(iv)         BSNL is at 4th position as an operator with Market share of 14.39%.  BSNL market share has decreased by 0.06% during the month of October 2010 and during 2010-11 (upto 31.10.2010) by 1.27%.

(2)          For Wireless Service:
(i)            BSNL has added 2.42 million connections during the month of October 2010.  This works out to 12.75% of the total connection added in the country.
(ii)          BSNL was at 2nd position in the new total connections added in October 2010 and 6th position during FY 2010-11 (upto October 2010). 
(iii)          The Wireless industry has grown by 20.93% in terms of connections upto the month of October 2010. Relatively, BSNL has grown by 12.26%.
(iv)         In the financial year 2010-11, BSNL has added 11.29 million connections.  This works out to 9.23% of the total connections (122.29 million) added in the country.  Corresponding period of previous year, BSNL had added 7.29 million connections which was 7.54% of the total connections (96.61 million) added in the country during that period.
(v)          BSNL is at 5th position as an operator with Market share of 11.42%.  BSNL market share has increased to 0.04% during the month of October 2010 and during 2010-11 (upto 31.10.2010) decreased by 0.46%.




(3)          For Broadband(DSL) services:
(i)            BSNL has added 0.17 million connections during the month of September 2010.  This works out to 80.77% of the total connection added in the country.
(ii)           The broadband industry has grown by 18.17% in terms of connections upto the month of September 2010. Relatively, BSNL has grown by 17.79%.
(iii)          In the financial year 2010-11, BSNL has added 0.96 million connections.  This works out to 60.52% of the total connections (1.58 million) added in the country.
(iv)         BSNL is at 1st position as an operator with Market share of 61.54%.  BSNL market share has increased to 0.40% during the month of September 2010 and during 2010-11 (upto 30.09.2010) decreased by 0.18%.

(4)          Summary:
(i)            The overall tele-density in the country is over 62.51% with Kolkata License area topping at 144.77% and Assam License area lowest at 34.73%. As on 30.09.2010, the overall Broadband-density is 0.87% and by BSNL’s Broadband-density is 0.53%.
(ii)           BSNL now holds 1st position as an operator with total number of telephone connections in 3 license areas viz. Haryana, Himachal Pradesh & Kerala Circles. 
(iii)          BSNL has No.2 position in total number of mobile connections in 6 License areas viz. Bihar, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Orissa and Punjab Circles.
