Our comments: Allow free run of the management of MTNL. Don't insist that equipments should be purchased from here and there. Allow the management to take independent decisions. MTNL will be in profit shortly.

There might be some substance to the request for allowing free hand to BSNL/MTNL management. But be careful what you ask for. If management is allowed free hand, the logical step will only be reduction in labor force.
ReplyDeleteBoth BSNL & MTNL are staffed for the technology of 1980s & 1990s. For an objective assessment, please look at the private sector players in India. Service to remote and rural areas should only require marginal additional strength.
If telecom unions have any vision, they should let the management offer VRS. what in VRS is hard for the unions to understand? It is "Voluntary". In fact, the unions (or maybe just their leadership) are doing a great disservice to their members by not giving their members to examine a VRS offer.
The contradiction in unions' stand becomes clear when, on the one hand, they want BSNL/MTNL to procure equipments from anywhere and allow free hand to management but they don't want the value of real estate assets to be realized.
