Telecom dealers to stop selling SIM cards and recharge vouchers - Mysore - City - The Times of India

MYSORE: Now, getting a new connection and currency recharge for mobile users will be difficult in Mysore, hereafter, as mobile telecom dealers have resolved not to do business for mobile service providers from Saturday onwards.

This comes in the wake of city police intensifying investigation into fake documentation racket in obtaining multiple pre-paid SIM cards, which was unearthed by cops, a week ago.

So far, over a dozen dealers have been arrested for cheating and criminal breach of trust. Police suspect retailers of duplicating documents submitted by genuine customers to take multiple SIM cards in the same address. Police claim that 5-8 SIM cards have been issued to the same addresses.

Our comments: It is true that the police authorities fail often in their investigations because of cell numbers used for various anti social activities when traced for real address  of the crime sheeters turn to be bogus.  After getting some documents without doing verification, all operators free distribute sim charges without any fee . After using the sim for low value i.e. Rs. 20,Rs. 30 users simply threw away the sim and go away.  Some operators all show their users base up using these sim cards.  We know about good advertisements that we have added 2 million subscribers and so on.  Really these use and thrown  sim cards also added upto the figure. By strict vigil, users base of some operators may not show significant change in coming months.  This vigil must be done all over India.  BSNL and MTNL will be able to give data records. If other operators also give records, it is good for telecom industry.
