CUSTOMER DELIGHT MONTH: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), the largest telecom service provider in India, is observing May as ‘Customer Delight Month’. While addressing mediapersons here today, Labh Singh, General Manager, BSNL, Amritsar, said an eight-point programme had been chalked out for the purpose. The major focus would be to rectify faults on the same day, clearing all pending orders for new telephone connections, broadband and shifting etc. About the new services, Labh Singh said BSNL is introducing video SMS and live video sharing. “Video SMS powers you to express yourself in a new way by leaving a video message on his number, just as we send an SMS to a designated service number. To use this service, a subscriber needs to have a handset, which supports video calls,” he said. — TNS

BSNL slaps Rs-2.6-cr-penalty on Airtel for ‘misusing’ its network
Bhopal: The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has slapped a Rs-2.6-crore-penalty on Bharti Airtel for 'misuing' its numbers before the mobile number portability (MNP) was launched on January 20 this year.
What is the issue
Before MNP became operational, Airtel is said to have transferred its calls to BSNL network as a result of which several of the state-owned telecom's subscribers began receiving calls from Airtel. These calls requested BSNL subscribers to switch to Airtel.
The issue was flagged off to the Telecom Department's Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell.
BSNL slaps penalty on Airtel
In a recent development in the case, BSNL has sent a Rs 2,60,82,825 crore demand note to Airtel. The money includes the calls made by Airtel from BSNL network and the penalty.
BSNL has also restricted the incoming and outgoing calls on Airtel's network, a move that has weighed heavily on the private telecom player's subscribers.

10 sims and calls worth 1.76cr, police clueless
Neeraj Chauhan, May 4, 2011, 06.08am IST
NEW DELHI: Delhi Police is a worried lot. Two brothers took ten SIM cards from a private telecom company to make premium calls while being on international roaming in Nepal leading to a bill of Rs 1.76 crore in four to five days. Delhi and Nepal authorities are confused over the kind of calls that have billed such a huge amount of money in such a short time.
Officials suspect these SIM cards have been used in some illegal activities and it could be a serious matter for national security. Police have asked Nepal to send the call details of these 10 connections and are on the lookout for the persons involved.
Police have registered a case of cheating, forgery and criminal conspiracy a few days back on the complaint of a private telecom, which issued the SIM cards to the two persons after proper verification. They have been identified as Deepak Rawat and Praveen Rawat, residents of Aali village in Sarita Vihar.

Airtel losing subscribers?India Bloom 04 05 11
Srinagar, May 3 (IBNS) Telecom company Bharti Airtel is reportedly losing its subscribers at a breakneck in Kashmir Valley due to its attitude towards subscribers, who are being made to wait for hours to submit verification forms.
Bharti Airtel has the largest number of pre-paid subscribers in Jammu and Kashmir but now owing to its 'poor' customer service, thousands of subscribers are now mulling to switch over to other companies.
As per the guidelines of the Central Department of Telecommunications, a fresh verification of pre-paid subscribers has been ordered and for this reason the SIM cards of thousands prepaid subscribers have been blocked.
"Bharti Airtel is the only telecom company where a subscriber has to spend at least 5 to 6 hours to submit a simple verification form. There is no system, only a single employee of the company has been deputed to receive thousands of forms. You can yourself imagine what a mess this company has spread," an Airtel user Bilal Ahmed told IBNS.
Coming down heavily on the management of Bharti Airtel, Bilal, a lawyer by forte, said that he is aghast. "Such a big company with only one outlet in Srinagar! What is this? Only one person handles hundreds of subscribers."
The company was forced to close its Raj Bagh outlet on account of the fury it faced from angry youths who went berserk and broke all the windowpanes of the outlet.
While talking to IBNS, Airtel subscriber Firdous Ahmed said that he has submitted four forms with four photographs and even after five days his SIM has not been activated.
‘My SIM card was activated after six days but with zero balance although I had a balance of Rs 46 at the time when my SIM was blocked," another subscriber Ghulam Nabi Raina told IBNS.
Nobody from the company was ready to speak on this issue.
Pertinently, the use of mobiles in Kashmir has been a matter of concern. The Home Ministry lifted the ban on pre-paid mobile services in the state in January last year which it had imposed in November 2009.

BSNL Tamil Nadu is not implementing many plans which are available in Chennai BSNL. So some subscribers of Tamil Nadu living in Chennai are facing problems. For example Rs.65 rate cutter in Chennai cannot be used in Tamil Nadu BSNL.
