The Hindu Business Line : Broadband access: Telcos may get to use BSNL's last-mile network

Our comments: It is not fair on the part of private operators to use BSNL network for broadband expansion. Already BSNL is incurring loss due to various reasons like cut in termination charges, reduction in roaming charges, problems even in procuring equipments for cell expansion due to various legal problems. As BSNL has incurred loss due to wage revision, till time, BSNL staff are denied bonus stating DPE guidelines. What is the need for BSNL to cater rural services. BSNL has to spend more than Rs. 700 per line in rural areas for a paltry return of Rs. 100 revenue per line. Is it the social responsibility of BSNL alone to cater the rural people? If BSNL stops rural services, BSNL will go to profits many fold. In a rural exchange, BSNL has to post a staff, security, 24 hours AC where there is power cut always. From rural exchanges,BSNL earns less. So last mile connectivity should be only with BSNL so that BSNL can expend its network for giving broadband connections. It is not correct to share last mile connectivity with other operators. When MNP is introduced why BSNL has to share infrastructure with other operators. MNP is going to be success to BSNL and MTNL as both are having more towers in comparison with other operators. Why we have to share our towers.
So BSNL must not share last mile connectivity with other operators.
