Deepak was a government nominee Director on the board of the state-run telco along with R N Jha.
The moves comes within months of the government deciding to remove an earlier Director P K Mittal from the Board. Jha, who is the DDG (IR) of DoT had succeeded Mittal.

According to sources, a decision on this regard had been taken on March 16. However, the person declined to state the reason for the replacement.

The two government directors Deepak and Mittal had earlier dissented with the board on the award of the tender for 93 million GSM lines.

They were not in favour of the huge tender, which was later scrapped following the recommendations of a Prime Ministerial panel.

The committee headed by Sam Pitroda, advisor to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, had suggested BSNL to scrap its controversial 93-million GSM lines tender.
