NEW DELHI: Telecom regulator Trai on Monday recommended a financial support of Rs 2,750 crore to BSNL to sustain its rural wireline connections installed before April, 2002.
"The support to BSNL should be continued for two years for sustenance of rural wire-line connections, installed before April 1 , 2002 with effect from July 18, 2011. The amount of support may be Rs 1,500 crore for the first year and Rs 1,250 Crore for the second year," Trai said.
BSNL had requested support of Rs 2,580 crore per year for the same.
The recommendation have been issued on request for Department for Telecommunications regarding continuation of support of rural wire-line connections, installed before April 1, 2002 from Universal Services Obligation Fund (USOF) beyond three years and the period thereof.
